hotel hopping

hotel hopping

Postby up4fun* » Mon Nov 21, 2011 12:52 pm

We are going to Antigua end of May beginning of June and are wondering if it wise or not to get accomodations after we get there. We will be booking a room for the first few days then we thought we would explore the island and stay at different places as we go...as there is so much there it would nice not to be tied down to one place.
Any advice anyone has would be much appreciated.

Hi up4fun

We did the hotel hopping in Jamaica because its so big. We booked one hotel for the first 10 days and another for the remaining 10 days in another area. When we got to the second resort it was closed due to damage from a hurricane and nobody let us know. (It had been closed for months) So it was not intentional that we were on the move and checking out other hotels. We found it a waste of time and although we did get to see other areas, and stayed in two more hotels, we could have done that anyway with our car rental.

Antigua is small and easy to get around. Your idea is good but not necessary to get a total overview of the island. Make sure if you decide to do this you have an idea of what places to check out before hand so you know pricing, all inclusive, amenities etc.

In honesty, Antigua is too small, and too easy to get around, to make this really worth doing. It might be worth your while spending part of your time in the South (English Harbour/Falmouth) and the rest up in the North West, but other than that, I don't think I'd bother. Easier to have a main base and rent a car for a few days to explore properly.

Our thinking was we thought if we booked a place for the whole time we might find another place we would rather stay at. One that we may have missed during our research online.
We figured with the sailing week done by the time we get there end of May the hotels wouldn't be too booked that we could chance it. What do you think?

I understsnd your idea, but do your research well and you will not be disappointed in where you stay. Antigua is small and east to navigate. Rent a car and explore and return at night to your home base. Stay in the northwest area or south and have fun

Just returned from Antigua ( Thursday ) :( and I spoke to several hotel resturant people around the island and they all seem to have the same thoughts that the tourists will be few and far between next year so there should be a lot of rooms available because of the reccession :( around the world.

Hi Bjm...thanks for the update. We did decide to book 2 weeks of our 3 week vacation at Tranquility Bay Resort and then see what happens the last week.
