Public bus

Great post Moni!

I had a similar question and was hoping you could point me in the right direction:

we're visiting Antigua for the first time next week and staying at the St. James. We want to check the boats for the upcoming Classic Regatta and then go over to St. Johns. We like finding non-touristy beaches where you can bring a cooler of drinks without any hassel.

We were hoping to avoid renting a car. Where can we catch the bus near the St. James and what stops would get me to the beaches described above?

Thanks in advance,

Chris

Thank you, Chris.

St James's is situated on the southeastern peninsula of the island and as such is quite remote. You would be wise to rent a car to visit all the lovely beaches Antigua has to offer. The closest and one of the most beautiful is Half Moon Bay which is only a short drive away from the St James's. You can rent a car from Reception or alternatively you could get a taxi from the taxi rank on the property. If you are thinking of doing a lot of sightseeing and visiting beaches, the cheaper option would be to rent a car. That way you can come and go as you please and also get down to the marina whenever you like.

St James's is a very relaxing place to unwind. Enjoy your hols in Paradise.

Cheers

Hi Chris

Buses don't drop at the remote beaches so you're on your own.

Moni suggested one of the best beaches but you might also like Pigeon Beach.

Take a taxi to English and Falmouth Harbours which are side by side. Walk around checking out all the stunning yachts and stop for a cold one at one of the many bars and restaurants. You can walk from there to Pigeon Beach but you might want to make arrangements with your taxi driver to drop you off, especially if you are taking a cooler, and pick you up at a given time. There are no resorts on this beach and only one restaurant called Bumpkins. Taxis don't usually hang here so you might have to walk up a steep hill to find one. You are less than 15 minutes away from St. James.

So much to see and do!

Hi all,

We are staying at the HALCYON COVE in the first two weeks of June. Although we are hring a car for 4 days, I was wondering how we can get to St. John's by public transport o nthe days without the car. And we like to go out at night, so was wondering how late the buses run before we have to get a taxi back. Any help?

Cheers!

I would recommend the bus from JH for both those trips. However from experience I would say taxi's do not charge the same fare no matter how many people are in the taxi, it has always been loaded depending on how many people are going. This is certainly true to Shirley Heights on Sunday, where taxi drivers take as many people as possible, and charge a cost per head.
